Parkinson's Disease

At our clinic, we understand the profound impact that Parkinson's disease (PD) can have on communication abilities.

Nearly 90 percent of individuals with PD experience speech or voice disorders that significantly impair their quality of life.

However, with the latest advances in neuroscience, there's hope.

Our specialized service focuses on providing effective speech treatments tailored to improve communication for those living with PD and other neurological conditions.

Our treatment protocol is designed to accommodate the diverse needs of our patients. Whether through in-person sessions or convenient televisits, we offer flexibility with multiple  sessions per week over four weeks.

Additionally, a personalized daily homework program ensures that progress continues beyond the treatment period, empowering patients to maintain a strong and confident voice for life. The impact of voice therapy extends far beyond improved communication.

By helping individuals rediscover their voice, we aim to enhance their overall quality of life. As Ms. Grassia-Chisholm, our lead Voice/Swallow/Airway Specialist, emphasizes, "We strive to help our community members find their best voice, and in doing so, help them find their best life."

Furthermore, we recognize the importance of holistic care for individuals with PD. Saliva management and swallow function are critical aspects that require attention, as dysphagia is a common and potentially serious complication of PD.

Our team works closely with patients and their families to establish rapport and provide ongoing monitoring, including yearly swallow assessments such as Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES).

At our clinic, we are committed to supporting individuals with PD on their journey towards improved communication, swallowing function, and overall well-being. Through evidence-based treatments and personalized care, we strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients and their loved ones.
